Splendid Loves Live @ Manhattan’s New Museum
Manhattan’s New Museum is the city’s only dedicated contemporary art museum, focused on showcasing new art and new ideas. In 1999 the museum launched a Triennial program showcasing the work of 50 young creatives, born between the mid 1970s and 1980s and many of whom have never shown in America before. Back for 2012, the theme of this year’s Triennial was “The Ungovernables”.
Splendid NY took #splendidloves live this week with a field trip to the museum to see the Triennial before it closed on Sunday. Some of our favorite work included Abigail DeVille’s deconstructed house demolition site, the booming music video “Jewel” by British born Cairo based Hassan Khan, and Finnish artist Pilvi Takala’s video documenting her month-long position at an accounting firm. Oh, and we also loved the flying carpet!

With themes of disruption and disobedience at the center of all the works Splendid left feeling invigorated and inspired and considering how we can creatively disrupt, challenge, disobey in our own lives - even if that disobedience means walking a different route home to see the city in a new way, or challenging ourselves to think outside the square when brainstorming for upcoming client work.
